SWEET GYMNASTICS IN WATER

Water, source of life, origin of life itself, element without which life could not exist.  This precious resource can be used to women’s own benefit during that very special period in their life which is pregnancy. A pool, whose borders make us feel safe, immersed in the sounds and colours of the wood to induce calmness and filled with salubrious salted water, can turn into a custom-made place for moms-to-be and offer them the opportunity to exercise and find their equilibrium in a comfortable environment.

The effects of the immersions and of the activities to be carried out in the water during pregnancy are manifold: water pressure on derma and subcutaneous layers favour venous and lymphatic circulation, this implies a reduction of heaviness and swelling, which are felt especially in the lower limbs.

The weightless movement in the water relieves joints and ligaments, which are put under stress by increased weight and postural and skeleton changes, whilst exercises aimed at assuaging pains in the joints and lumbago and at improving flexibility and mobility of the spine become easier to perform.

Some respiratory parameters modify into the water and  pulmonary perfusion, that is the quantity of blood which reaches the alveolus to oxygenate them, improves. The immersion itself causes an increase of the amniotic liquid and, not the least, of endorphins, the hormones of well-being.

Physical activity in the water can start on the twelfth  week of pregnancy, following medical gynaecological evaluation certifying good health and can be carried on until the end of the pregnancy. The exercises suggested take into consideration all the changes occurred during pregnancy as well as the individual physical condition and do not require any specific nor swimming skills.

Lessons include gentle mobility exercises in different floating situations, stretching of different muscular regions, respiratory and relaxation exercises, exercises to tone and strengthen pelvic region, legs and tights, shoulders and arms, thus also providing a good preparation for breast-feeding and child-care. The activity is organized within small groups of moms-to-be, in cycles of at least ten sessions to be held twice a week.

The development of the uterus, together with the weight increase and other manifestations, causes postural changes; an appropriate preparation, with exercises to tone abdomen, paravertebral muscles and upper and lower limbs, allows to prevent pathological conditions of the locomotive system.

In the water it is easier to prevent or at least relieve pregnancy disorders thanks to the weight reduction and to the continuous body massage by water pressure.

The binomial exercise-pregnancy offers important opportunities for physical and psychical  well-being and for morphological and postural harmony. It helps alleviating pain during labour, in fact, by improving oxygenation and muscular self control  pain can be controlled or relieved,  it can also result helpful for the mother/child relationship after birth. By associating exercise with the beneficial effects of  immersion, especially in salted water, and with the contact with the sounds and colours of the surrounding natural environment, we will put the future mothers in the  best condition to face this wonderful period with calm and knowledge.

The course is addressed to all those interested in: moving fluidly, relax and, at the same time, harmonically strengthen the body. This activity can be practised by people suffering from pains and pathologies of the spine and it is especially recommended before and after childbirth.

Lessons last 55’ each and can be individual or for a maximum of 6 people at the time.

GYROKINESIS

The Art of Exercising and Beyond ®

Juliu Horvath 's personal struggle with chronic pain and injuries led to the development of the Juliu Horvath Method™. An important component of this methodology is GYROKINESIS. It incorporates many key principles from yoga, dance, gymnastics and tai-chi.

The first level of GYROKINESIS , the Essentials of Body Kinetics™ , is the core of Horvath's methodology. The system works the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement: forward, backward, left side, right side, left twist, right twist and circular, as well as all other joint articulation.

This methodology systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating exercises. Movement stimulates the body's internal organs and different corresponding breathing patterns are integrated.

There's fluidity of movement so that postures are not held for long periods of time and unnecessary over-tenseness is prevented. Instead, the various postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance than traditional yoga.

Classes start with self-massage, tapping, rubbing and pressing techniques from the head to the feet, accompanied by simple corresponding breathing patterns to awaken the body. The next focus is on the spine and pelvis. Seated on low stools, the class mobilizes the spine through a series of arching, curling, bending, twisting and spiral movements. These same movement patterns are expanded to release the over-tense muscles of the extremities in all possible directions of movement. In all movements the focus is on the spine so that entire functional chain of the muscles are activated. The corresponding breathing patterns in every movement stimulate the nervous system, open up the energy pathways and helps the body to release waste products and toxins that will be carried away through the oxygenated blood. The more advanced classes add endurance training to bodies prepared for more strenuous activities. The classes encompass not only sitting but also laying and standing positions.

All of the exercises are performed without any equipment so that they may also be done individually at home and at work for relaxation in the case of one-sided postures at work.
Horvath's methodology invigorates and re-educates the body to move with fluidity, relaxation and power.

The course is addressed to all those interested in: moving fluidly, relax and, at the same time, harmonically strengthen the body. This activity can be practised by people suffering from pains and pathologies of the spine and it is especially recommended before and after childbirth.
